Design Werk gained a new customer, the customer was looking to communicate a design to the customer.
Emails and phone calls, hand drawings did not communicate the design.
Design Werk provided drawings per standard including bill of material, exploded views, section views and detailed views to communicate the design. The drawing ended the confusion and created the base to discuss the design on hand.

Processor, CPU selection for SolidWorks

Selecting a processor for SolidWorks will depend on your use of SolidWorks!
Core SolidWorks is a single threaded application. This means that SolidWorks wont take advantage of multiple processor cores. In theory this means a single core 3.0 GHZ processor would outperform a dual core 2.8 GHZ Processor. Since single cores are not available anymore and we hardly ever run one application at a time a dualcore makes more sense. If you are working in a drawing, SolidWorks is no longer single threaded. If you work with photoview 360 SolidWorks would take advantage of a quadcore even a dual processor quadcore, some parts of SolidWorks Simulation will also take advantage of multiple cores and processors. To summarize all the above if you are running SolidWorks and only model and create drawings, you are better served by a high clock speed dualcore than a lower clock speed quadcore.
In essence Core SolidWorks wants clock speed.
I highly recommend Windows 7 64bit and 8GB of Ram if you work in larger assemblies.
Stay away from XP 64 Bit. Also I would use a quadro FX 580 minimum recommended FX 1800.
At last dont forget the HDD get a 7200 RPM better yet a 10000RPM HDD.
Please see the graph below for some info on some benchmarks.
The higher the number the longer it took the computer to rebuild the model.

I was hired in December of 2004 as a tooling designer at a company that stamped and assembled components for the Hard Disk Drive industry. There I designed progressive stamping tooling, product handling equipment, test and metrology fixtures and automation equipment. The company had plenty of challenges to offer and I was thrilled about all the processes I got involved in. I felt at home, unfortunately the company did not feel at home in the US anymore and moved all the equipment to Thailand and China, and I was not going to move. December 2006

9/11 hit the economy hard.

The company took a big hit at 9/11 and did not seem to recover from it, orders went down and customers downsized or vanished.
The tooling staff went from 12 to 2 guys.
I was one of the two guys left in the shop. The future of the company did not look very promising and I was once again looking for new challenge in winter 2004.

I received a job offer from a tier one automotive supplier, now everybody knows the automotive industry is the pillar of the German economy, thus making the automotive industry an attractive field to work in. Automotive suppliers invest heavily in automation and technology. This is exactly what this company did. The company invested in robotics,(welding and assembly robots) CAD CAM (Mastercam and Catia) machines (3D high speed milling, CNC sinker EDM) 800 ton transfer presses. To make a long story short there was a lot to learn here, and I did.

In the second year Machining plays a more dominant role, the file finally becomes a deburr tool.
The machines are learned in the following order:
1. Automatic hydraulic saw
2. drill press
3. manual mill
4. manual lathe
5. grinder

This provided a large boost in Motivation as I was now able to use technology to remove material.

The apprentice year one

My Career began in 1990 at a place called Idar- Oberstein, Germany where I started as an apprentice in the trade of Tool and Die making.
The main focus of the apprenticeship is to teach the history and all the basics of the trade, including the manufacturing methods that are required, this actually starts with: Me, a block of steel, a Vise, a scribe, a ruler, and a file in my hand.
The funny thing is at the time this seemed exiting and I was awaiting my fist lessons in proper use of a file. The excitement wore off after about four months of using files and hacksaw, maybe that big blister on my hand had something to do with it? I also not only learned how to file flat and square, I also learned that one side of the file is convex to compensate for the movement of you arms. This helps to keep the file from taking too much material off the edges of the part and less material off the center. I also did a fair amount of work with a chisel to learn about cutting angles and the result of changing them. The chisel makes an excellent tool to teach this as you can vary angles by just holding it at a different angle or grind the chisel angle to get a quick feedback on forces required at different angles of the cutting edge.
